If you are wondering who on earth Eckhart Tolle is read on! I first read Eckhart Tolle's book, The Power of Now over 15 years ago. It was the first book I'd read about the energy state of presence that really resonated with me. Presence is a state where we are alert, alive, aware and powerfully peaceful. A state where someone might walk up to us and ask "Can I have some of what you have?" To which Eckhart answers "You have it already. You just can't feel it because your mind is making too much noise."
The noisy mind, often referred to as the monkey mind is also something that the practice of mindfulness attempts to work with. Mindfulness has become an accepted tool in mainstream medicine and psychology and is a great stepping stone towards meditation. Mindfulness means paying attention to our senses or an aspect of the physical body. This helps quieten the noisy mind and is like a circuit breaker for the unhelpful mind-made thoughts and stories that are otherwise constantly circling.
Eckhart is somehow able to keep this concept simple yet take it deeper in his books, talks and podcast Eckhart Tolle: Essential Teachings.
The Power of Now and Eckhart's later book A New Earth are both excellent reads that you will keep coming back to time and time again. Keep them handy for when moments of inspiration, wisdom or comfort are needed.
