Holistic Vets & Animal natural therapies

Hi everyone,

This email is for all the animal lovers out there.  Just as for humans, there are many natural therapies that can help animals hugely.  The main ones I'm going to mention here are TCM (traditional chinese medicine including acupuncture), nutrition and Homeopathy.  However there are many other mocailites - there are animal chiropractors, bowen therapists, craniosacral therapists, kinesiologists and more.  So if your favourite animal is having a physical, mental or emotional issue there will be a natural therapy that can help.

As many of you know Gypsy already receives Kinesiology balances which she seems to love.  So I was delighted to find a vet in Willunga who practices TCM with animals as well as offering rehabilitation therapy.  I wanted to take Gypsy in because before we were lucky enough to have her, she underwent surgery on both her knees and she has some stiffness in her back legs...not that it stops her running about like a lunatic!  Being aware that leg issues can contribute to hip and back issues I wanted to do all we can to minimise any future discomfort for her.

Clare Ellis from Willunga Vets helped us with both strengthening and stretching exercises, acupressure points to work on and we got a TCM diet specific for arthritis.   The diet is based on the work of another TCM trained vet named Clare in WA and here is her link for the standard diet for dogs and cats.  If you need a diet specific to a condition I would recommend speaking to a vet trained in TCM to get the right mix for your furry friend.  Once you have the recipe it's easy to make up in bulk and freeze in portions.

I've also had really good feedback from a client about a vet she used to help her dog with kidney issues.  She got a comprehensive diet specifically designed for her dog and the kidney issues have resolved.  This vet is in Victoria but can do consults via phone and email where appropriate.  https://www.bentonsroadvet.com.au/staff/dr-kelly-halls/

If you are keen to try Homeopathy with your animals I can recommend my Homeopath Andrea Bourne.  Homeopathy has helped Gypsy tremendously with incontinence - we now have a combination remedy that I simply put in her water every day and the incontinence is only occurring about once a month rather than multiple times a week.  Homeopathy is also great with animals who have anxiety and stress-related issues as well as physical issues.

If you have had any other good experiences with holistic vets or other animal practitioners please let me know so I can share the information.

Now go and give your animal an extra hug from me!

Happy helping your animals!

Carla :)
